Encounter, Interact, Synthesize

Open Space Prototype
This is a story about encounter, interact, and synthesize. The project explores the potential of leftover public spaces in Chinatown, Manhattan, by transforming them into a community hub and a bridge between communities.

Encounter
What would happen when two different culture encounter? In a smaller scale, what would happen when different communities encounter, Or even, when individual encounter?

Interact
Establish closer connections among individuals, groups, and communities, and through these connections, create resilient community values.

Individual Interaction
On an individual level, exchange begins with a glance—eye contact made easier when people sit at the same height.

Group Interaction
At the group scale, overlapping activity spaces invite spontaneous moments of connection and play.

Community Interaction
Across the community, a bridge weaves together separate spaces, softening boundaries and setting the city in motion. As people move along it—passing a forum, a koi pond, a quiet bench—each step becomes an invitation to pause, meet, and share.

Synthesize - Site A
Site A is a gateway to the city—alive with movement and change. By day, it welcomes games and laughter; by night, it transforms into a plaza where elders dance beneath the fading light.

Synthesize - Site B
Site B lies at the heart of the neighborhood, open and welcoming to everyday life. It offers spaces for children to play, elders to gather, pets to wander, and communities to celebrate.

Temporal and Spatial Synthesis
Here, boundaries fade—a place where cultures meet, people connect, and joy feels shared.
